Shopping With My Daughters

   Shopping with My Daughters

I went to Hobby Lobby today.  It’s been a while since I’ve been there.  My daughters wanted me to go with them and I decided to go.  I sat in the back with my grandchildren.  I enjoy spending time with them.

I walked around the store and looked at a few things.  I decided to buy some yarn, I needed some bright colors. I enjoy crocheting, it helps me from thinking too much.

It seems every time I go somewhere, something strange happens.  We got into two separate lines.  The lady at the register rang up my order and I was very surprised at the total.  I thought it would be more.

I knew that there was a 30% off sale. I thought maybe I chose a clearance item or something.  I asked if I could get the items at the same price if I got more.  She said yes.  So, I went and got more of the same type of yarn.  I noticed something the moment I went back to the yarn.  A very strong smell of cigarette smoke.  It was enough to gag me.  I felt sorry for the woman, she sat down on the floor and was crying.

I wasn’t sure what to do.  The Hobby Lobby employee was right there nearby.  I needed to go; my family was waiting for me.

I couldn’t stay; my two daughters were out in the car.   My grandchildren were fussy.   I began to exit from the aisle, as an employee was walking by.  I made my way to the registers.

I do not smoke and I have an allergy to it.  I bought some curlers from a thrift store.  I didn’t realize when I bought them that they had a terrible smell. They looked new.  I took them home wiped them down.  Every time I walk into my bathroom now, it smells like smoke, even after using cleaners and bleach on them.

Anyway, I emptied my cart of 12 more skeins of yarn.  I realized after she rang it up there was a big mistake on the first purchase. I was sure to show her the first receipt because I didn’t want to leave without telling them about it.  My family was waiting for me and I needed to be on my way.  She said, “Mam, don’t worry about it. It was our mistake.”

I’ll just think of it as a donation and a blessing.

I have another shopping story to tell you but It will have to be another time.

The Owl Ring

The Owl Ring

Four to six years ago, around the time I did volunteer work for the hospital, My daughter and I were buying craft supplies from Hobby Lobby  to prepare for a wedding.  I was at the register and had made a few friendly suggestions to keep some confusion from happening.  I wasn't trying to be prideful or anything, though I guess it could have been misunderstood.  Anyway an older lady, older than myself, came up to the register with a very smart attitude and held up her fist.  She had a huge ring on her finger.  It had a huge owl on it made from some heavy medal , at least that was the way it looked.   She went on to say, how much damage it could do if she hit someone with it, of course she brought attention to herself.  She was upset with me for some reason and I couldn't understand why.   I know sometimes people can stir up anger in another person by making implications that may be twisted or exaggerated.  They can sometimes cause one person to become angry at another person.  I felt that this lady was angered by another employee who exaggerated or insinuated something that angered her at me.  Therefore she rudely threatened me to hit me with her ring. It wasn't a joke, unless it was a private joke.   I noticed another employee, a young man around twenty years, he looked amused by the whole thing and was texting the incident to someone else.  I can't remember what was said after that, I just remember leaving thinking, "I can't believe that this could've ever happened at a "Hobby Lobby" store."
I know this in minor in comparison to some things that happen in stores, but usually it's the other way around.  The customer is most always treated with respect.  Then on occasion, a customer may become unhappy with a cashier.

Titus 3:2
To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers,
but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men.

James 3:17
But the wisdom that is from above is first pure,
then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated,
full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality,
and without hypocrisy.
