“The Snowplow and the Streetlight”
Years ago in a small Midwestern town, a pastor walked
outside early on New Year’s morning. Snow had fallen heavily overnight,
covering everything in a thick white blanket. The streets were silent,
untouched, and still.
Later that morning, the pastor shared this with his
congregation:
“The New Year is like that untouched snow — unknown,
untraveled, and sometimes overwhelming. But God is like the streetlight,
shining ahead. And His Word is the plow that clears the way. We don’t need to
see the whole road. We only need to walk the path He has already prepared.”
Short Bible Lesson: “Snow and
the God Who Makes Us New”
Theme: Snow teaches us about God’s cleansing,
renewing, and transforming work.
1. Snow Reminds Us of God’s Cleansing Power
- “Though
your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow.” — Isaiah
1:18
God doesn’t just dust us off — He makes us new.
2. Snow Falls Quietly, Like God’s Gentle Work in Us
- “Be
still, and know that I am God.” — Psalm 46:10
3. Snow Reflects Light — We Are Called to Do the Same
- “Let
your light shine before others…” — Matthew 5:16
4. Snowfall Is Seasonal — So Are Our Lives
- “For
everything there is a season…” — Ecclesiastes 3:1
God is faithful in every season — planting, pruning,
waiting, and renewing.

Matthew 5:16 KJV:
"Let your light so shine before men, that
they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
Snow drifts softly, cloaking the world in white, Lanterns glow warmly against the long night. Voices
of joy rise, gentle and clear, Love is the gift that gathers us near.
In the hush of December, hope takes its flight, Stars guide our hearts through the coldest twilight. Christmas whispers—kindness is never small, It’s the light that shines brightest of all.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------“In the hush of falling snow, love whispers louder
than the cold.”
“Christmas isn’t just a season—it’s a
lantern we carry through the darkest nights.”
“Every twinkle of light is a reminder that
hope can be reborn, even in winter’s silence.”
“The warmth of togetherness melts even the iciest
December winds.”
“The
greatest gift of Christmas is not wrapped in ribbons, but in kindness
shared.”
“Winter
skies may be heavy, but Christmas teaches us to look for stars.”
“Snowflakes fall uniquely, just as every moment
of love makes our story one of a kind.”
A
Winter Testimony of Grace and Answered Prayer
In December 2024, Holly Wallace faced her first holiday
season after the sudden death of her husband. Thanksgiving had already been
difficult—she and her seven children chose to serve meals at a restaurant
rather than sit at home with an empty chair at their table. As Christmas
approached, the weight of grief grew heavier. Her husband had always been
affectionately called “Mr. Christmas” by family and friends, because he was the
one who filled their home with laughter, decorations, and joy. He strung the lights,
played carols, and made every holiday sparkle. Without him, Holly felt
paralyzed with fear, wondering how she could possibly create a Christmas for
her children.
One evening, Holly prayed for strength and guidance. She
didn’t ask for gifts or money—only for the ability to bring light into her
children’s eyes again. Soon after, unexpected blessings began to arrive.
Friends and members of her church community stepped in, offering support,
meals, and even small presents for the children. Holly realized that her prayer
had been answered, not through material abundance, but through the grace of
people who carried her family’s burden with love. The crunch of snow outside,
the glow of candles within, and the sound of her children’s laughter reminded
her that God’s grace often comes quietly, through the kindness of others.
On Christmas morning, Holly and her children gathered
around a modest tree decorated with handmade ornaments. Instead of sorrow,
their home was filled with gratitude. They discovered that grace can transform
even the darkest winter into a season of hope. Holly’s testimony became a
living reminder of the words of Jesus:
Thanksgiving is not only about food, and Christmas is not
only about gifts—it is about answered prayers, shared burdens, and the miracle
of grace.
