THE NIGHT THE SNOW STOOD STILL Many Recourses

THE NIGHT THE SNOW STOOD STILL

A Winter Story of Family, Faith, and the Blessed Hope

There is a small town tucked between two hills in northern Ohio where winters arrive early and stay late. In that town lived an elderly widow named Evelyn Harper, known for her warm gingerbread, her gentle laugh, and her unwavering belief that Jesus could return at any moment. Her neighbors said she had a way of making heaven feel close—like stepping through her front door brought you one breath nearer to glory.

Every December, Evelyn hosted a simple gathering for the neighborhood children. She called it “The Night the Snow Stood Still.” It wasn’t fancy—just cocoa, cookies, and a story by the fire—but the children came running as though she were handing out treasure.

That winter, a fierce storm rolled in on the very night of the gathering. Parents hesitated, but the children begged, and soon a small crowd of boots and mittens filled Evelyn’s porch. She welcomed them in with her usual sparkle.

Inside, the fire crackled. Snow tapped the windows like soft fingertips. The children settled on quilts while Evelyn opened her worn Bible.

“I want to tell you a true story,” she began. “A story about my father.”

The room grew still.

“When I was a girl,” she said, “my father worked long hours at the mill. But every night—no matter how tired he was—he would step onto the porch, look up at the sky, and say, ‘Maybe tonight, Evie. Maybe tonight the Lord will come for us.’”

She smiled at the memory.

“One night, a terrible storm hit. The power went out. The wind howled. I was frightened. But my father lit a lantern, wrapped me in a blanket, and carried me outside. The snow was falling sideways, and the trees bent low. But he whispered, ‘Evie, even storms obey Him. And one day, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, He will call His children home.’”

The children leaned in.

“That night,” she continued, “the storm suddenly stopped. Just… stopped. The snowflakes hung in the air like they were waiting. My father said, ‘See, Evie? Even creation pauses when it remembers its Maker.’”

She closed her Bible gently.

“That moment stayed with me my whole life. It taught me that the hope of Christ’s return isn’t meant to frighten us. It’s meant to steady us. To remind us that no matter how dark the night or how fierce the storm, Jesus keeps His promises. And one day, He will gather His people—just as He said.”

Outside, the wind softened. The storm quieted.

One of the children whispered, “Mrs. Harper… do you think Jesus could come back on a night like this?”

Evelyn’s eyes shone.

“Oh yes,” she said. “He could come on a night just like this. And if He does, I want Him to find us loving one another, helping one another, and watching with hope.”

The children helped her clean up before bundling into their coats. When they stepped outside, they gasped.

The snow had stopped.

The world was still.

Lantern light shimmered on the frozen branches. The sky above was clear and bright, as though heaven had opened a window.

Evelyn stood in the doorway, smiling.

“See?” she whispered. “Sometimes the snow remembers.

🕯️ Devotion: Being Ready, Being Right

1. The Lamp That Never Goes Out

Jesus told the story of ten virgins waiting for the bridegroom (Matthew 25:1–13). Five were wise, five were foolish. The wise brought extra oil. The foolish did not. When the bridegroom came, only the ready ones entered in. This parable isn’t just about lamps — it’s about hearts. Are we burning bright with faith, or flickering low with distraction?

2. Give Me Oil — What Does It Mean?

Oil in scripture often represents the Holy Spirit, anointing, and readiness. When we sing “Give me oil in my lamp,” we’re asking God to keep our faith alive, our love burning, and our hope strong. It’s a prayer for endurance — not just to start the race, but to finish it well.

3. Burning Till the Break of Day

The “break of day” is the return of Christ — the Rapture, the glorious moment when the trumpet sounds and the faithful rise to meet Him. Until then, we burn. We shine. We love. We serve. We stay ready.

“Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.” — Matthew 25:13

4. Being Ready Is Being Right

Readiness isn’t just about knowing the Bible — it’s about living it. Being right with God means repenting, forgiving, loving, and walking in truth. It means checking our hearts daily and asking, “Lord, is my lamp burning?”

5. Children of Light

Jesus said, “Ye are the light of the world.” (Matthew 5:14) Children can shine too. When they sing, pray, share, and love, they carry the flame. Miss Evelin’s story reminds us: even cocoa and cookies can be holy when shared with joy.

6. The Oil of Joy

Isaiah 61:3 speaks of “the oil of joy for mourning.” God’s Spirit brings gladness even in sorrow. When we feel tired or afraid, we ask for fresh oil — not from a bottle, but from heaven.

7. The Rapture Is Real

Paul wrote, “Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds…” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). This isn’t fantasy — it’s our future. The Rapture is the moment when Jesus gathers His bride. Will we be ready?

8. The Invitation Is Open

Jesus stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20). He doesn’t force His way in. He invites. If you’ve never asked Him into your heart, today is the day. Don’t wait for the midnight cry.

9. A Prayer for the Saved and the Seeking

Dear Jesus, thank You for being the Light of the world. Fill my lamp with Your Spirit. Help me burn with love, truth, and joy. Forgive my sins. Make me ready. I pray for every child to know You, and for every heart to be lit with Your flame. Amen.

10. The Joy of Being Ready

There’s no fear in readiness. Only joy. Only peace. Only the thrill of knowing that when the trumpet sounds, we’ll rise with Him. So sing it loud: “Keep me burning till the break of day!”

The Lord Hath Spoken

The Lord Hath Spoken

The sun is shining, like satin lining;
 Across the wet branches of the trees.
The birds have been singing songs all day long.
Spring has come forth - flourishing with glee.

God has given us joy and life in Him;
Just as a new  spring morning  happens.
Just as a new beginning gives hope;
Jesus revives willing hearts again.

The chill of winter has passed at last;
We see the light through the open clouds.
Nature has sprung up with encouragement;
A reminder which speaks of God so loud.

His goodness and His love in creation;
His salvation, His forgiveness.
His joy, His light, the life He's given us.
Redemption from wintry bitterness.
Oh  joy, the Lord hath spoken through nature;
In ev'ry  flower that arises.
In ev'ry tree that brings forth new blossoms.
Each springtime brings us new surprises.

As we feel the presence of our God's love;
Oh Let us praise Him, Let us praise Him.
Let us recognize Him, give Him glory;
For springtime is a blessing from Him.

Thee And Only Thee

Thee and Only Thee

Lord, fill  my heart with your presence;
Holy Word penetrate my essence.
Take away my anxiety;
Speak, for I'm attentive unto thee.

Put a song upon my heartstrings;
Oh what peace, what joy, your Spirit brings.
When we seek thee, when we love thee;
When we worship thee and only thee.

Within this world's tempestuous sea;
Help us keep eyes of faith on thee.
This world is hateful,  unfaithful;
But you dear God,  are unchangeable.

Praise your name your Holy name, dear Lord;
You're still the same, You're still the same.
Put a song upon my heartstrings;
Bring you glory to your holy name.

Lord, fill my heart with your blessing;
As I yield my being, confessing.
You are our strength and you are our stay;
That's why we can rejoice in you each day.

Put a song upon my heartstrings;
Oh what peace, and comfort, your Spirit brings.
When we seek thee, when we love thee;
When we worship thee and only thee.

We Need To Keep Our Candle Lit

We Need To Keep Our Candle Lit

I choose to joy in the life that God has given me;
Just knowing He has loved and forgiven me.
I choose to joy in the presence of the Lord my God;
I choose to live for Him with joy faithfully.

Though at times I've felt alone, rejected and mocked;
Tempted to be angry upset and to quit.
I know God will give me wisdom in my choices each day;
I choose to have joy and to keep my candle lit.

We need to keep our candle lit, as we love the Lord.
Prayin'  ev'ry day, keep the devil away.
There are consequences for the choices that we make;
That's why we need to stay close to God each day.

Love one another, be tender hearted and kind;
Confess our sins daily, walk worthy and shine.
He will give us strength, mount us up on eagle's wings;
All things work together for good, in His time.

I choose to joy in the life that God has given me;
Just knowing He has loved and forgiven me.
Because He is the joy that fills my heart that makes me sing;
I choose  to have joy and to keep my candle lit.

We need to keep our candle lit, as we love the Lord.
Prayin' ev'ry day, keep the devil away.
There are consequences for the choices that we make;
That's why we need to stay close to God each day.

I choose to joy in the life that God has given me;
Just knowing He has loved and forgiven me.
Because He is the joy that fills my heart that makes me sing;
I choose  to have joy and to keep my candle lit.

Through The Storm

The updated one is at the bottom

corrections made

Through The Storm

The storm winds blew upon the trees;
Harshly they bowed from side to side.
The whipping rain came down with sound;
The lightning lit the darkened sky.

Our faith was tried, sometimes we cried;
We wondered if we'd make it through.
We held on tight, kept God in sight;
That's all we knew that we could do.

It's when we praised our God above;
We felt our Saviors loving hug.
It's when we called upon His name;
Our strength was found in His great love.

Oh, when the whist'ling swirling winds;
Came to a gentle, peaceful end.
We saw the sunlight shining through;
Instead of tears, God's joy again.

 Psalms 30:5
For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour
is life: weeping may endure for a night,
but joy cometh in the morning.

Through The Storm

The cold winds blew upon the trees;
Harshly they turn from side to side.
The whipping rain came down with sound;
The lightning lit the darkened sky.

Our faith was tried, sometimes we cried;
We wondered if we'd make it through.
We held on tight, kept God in sight;
That's all we knew that we could do.

It's when we praised our God in faith;
We felt our Saviour’s loving hug.
It's when we called upon His name;
Our strength was found in His great love.

Oh, when the whistling swirling winds;
Came to a gentle, peaceful end.
We saw the sunlight shining through;
We felt safe and joyful again.

God is there with us in the storm.
God is with us in our sorrows.
God gives us faith through all our fears.
He gives us strength to face tomorrow.

As we keep our focus on Him.
As we place our burden on Him.
He renews right ambitions.
As we trust Him, as we love Him.

Even through the storm.
Even through the storm.

It Is You Jesus, Who I Want To Please

It Is You Jesus, Who  I Want To Please

The blessing of Lord shall abide;
When we live to please and honor Him.
Like dew  from heaven  refreshing the earth;
Like fruit hanging from a healthful limb.

The blessing of the Lord shall remain;
When we remain faithful  and true in Christ.
Even though sometimes it's hard to see;
I remember His great sacrifice.
---------
The greatest blessing is you Jesus;
The greatest gift I've ever received .
And your blessing still abides on me;
It is you Jesus, who  I want to please.

You gave us the waters that flow free;
You gave the hope of eternity.
You  gave us the grace to face each day;
And all the blessing we find in thee.

Our lives are  in your hands each moment;
Our trust in your promised provision.
When we call upon your name  and pray;
You give us much needed attention.
--------
You give us strength, when we have no strength.
You restore our faith, when we need faith;
You give us joy when we have no joy;
You lead us in all your righteous ways.

The greatest blessing is you Jesus;
The greatest gift I've ever received .
And your blessing still abides on me;
It is you Jesus, who  I want to please.

Joy Will Shine When Morning Shines

Joy Will Shine When Morning Shines

With many tears and troubled years;
We wonder if it's worth it all.
With no respect, sometimes neglect;
With sad hearts, our countenance falls.

Sometimes it's hard to lift your eyes;
To say hello, to say goodbye.
When sadness reigns, through silent pain;
When the tears have weakened our eyes.

Tears may fall all through the nighttime;
But joy will shine when morning shines.
When Jesus comforts through the praise;
His healing love comes right on time.

May we face each day with knowing;
There is a place prepared above.
Continue in His joy, my friend;
Find peace His comfort and love.

One day the heavens will open;
 Jesus will stand in the sky.
This world will be a memory;
As we wave to this world goodbye.

Forever joy comes on that day;
When all tears will vanish away.
Heaven will be yours and be mine;
Yes, joy will shine when morning shines.

Oh What Joy

Oh What Joy

When my life is past and my work here done;
When I walk the streets of gold.
To be with my King, my Father in heaven;
What  great joy  will lift my soul.

When I see his glory fill the heavens;
And angels kneeling  at his throne;
I'm sure I'll be rejoicing with them there;
Praisin' God that I am home.

What joy, I'm sure will fill my heart that day;
Just to see Him look at me.
Just to see him smile, close beside me walk;
My Savoiur, who died for me.

Chorus:
Oh what joy, we will know in heaven one day;
When  this world has past away.
We will never know a teardrop  or sorrow;
And we'll  never be afraid.
Oh what joy, we will know, when we see Him ;
Only joy that heaven can tell;
For He has forgiven us of all our sins;
Gave us heaven and spared us from hell.

You Are The Joy Of My World

 Isaiah 52:9
 Break forth into joy, sing together, ye waste places of Jerusalem: for the LORD hath comforted his people, he hath redeemed Jerusalem.

Knowing Joy

We all have different lives.  We have a world in this world, and that world is the world of people we know, places we go, the place we live and what we allow in our lives. Christ is part of my world, and He has given me joy.  I can't say that I'm always joyful, but Christ has taught me to be joyful.  Praising the Lord and meditating upon His Word is a way to restore joy each day. Without him is emptiness like a desert place that never knew joy or can truly know it.  Making Christ the most valuable part of our world comes first by accepting his gift of salvation, which he offers to every man, woman, and child.  Maintaining joy comes through a faithful life of meditation upon His Word, faith, singing, praising, thanksgiving, and prayer. Keeping a clear conscience before God is also very important in maintaining joy.  We can not continue in sin and continue in the joy of the Lord.
God resists the proud who will not humble themselves and turn from sin, but he draws nigh to the humble one, who repents and turns from his sin. Maintaining a good relationship with Christ will enable us to know and live a joyful life.  Though life has sorrows and troubles, like Paul and Silas who were thrown in a cold, dark prison, we too can find joy through our problems.

He Is Near

HE IS NEAR

He is near;
always near;
Justifier of my soul.

His presence;
ever near.
His great love has made me whole.

While this world;
In it's grief.
tries our faith, our belief.

When He speaks;
It is sweet;
because I know He loves me.

Many tears;
Through these years;
But so much more joy to tell.

Cause my Lord;
fills my heart
 with his love His Spirit dwells.

He is near;
always near;
Saviour of my soul.

Chorus: He Is Near
Susan Y Nikitenko

This morning the Lord gave me a new Chorus.  He Is Near.  When we are children of God, On the day we were saved He came to dwell in our hearts.  We were born again, made alive in Christ.  With Him we can find joy in times of sorrow  if we continue in faith, continue in the praising of Him.  His peace gives relief and rest for our souls.

Have Confidence In God

Have Confidence In God

Have confidence that Jesus saves to the uttermost;
And that  God always keeps His Word.
He's still in the business of forever salvation ;
He's the joy of the message heard.

Have confidence that He can deliver us from evil;
He fills us with courage that wins.
He's still in the business of courageous living ;
He is the conqueror of sin.

Have confidence that God will never let us down;
He'll never leave or forsake us.
He's still in the business of  a forever love;
Oh how great is His faithfulness.

Have confidence that God knows what He is doing;
Though we may never understand.
He's still in the business of  giving us strength  and hope;
In impossible circumstance.

Have confidence that God hears and answers prayer;
When our hearts are clean in Him.
God is still in the business of  parting seas;
Just as if it were, way back then.

Have confidence that God is not through using you;
Forgive yourself and move on.
God is still in the business of  great forgiveness;
Under the blood , our sins are gone.

Matthew  6:13
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from
evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the
power, and the glory, forever. Amen.
